Gaelic Schools Week
Each year, Comann nam Pàrant organise a Gaelic Schools week. Schools have the opportunity to come to Edinburgh and attend sessions at different attractions, such as Our Dynamic Earth, National Museum of Scotland and Edinburgh Castle with the sessions all delivered through the medium of Gaelic. The aim of the week is to give pupils opportunities to use their Gaelic in different environments with new people. Also, it is a great opportunity for the pupils to meet with other Gaelic pupils. Normally, the week takes place at the end of April with sessions each morning and afternoon Monday to Friday. The sessions are for pupils between P4-7.
Schools in the central belt will normally come to Edinburgh for the day and attend one or two sessions. For the schools in the Highlands, the Western Isles and Argyll, this is a bigger trip and they usually stay in Edinburgh for one or two nights, attending sessions over two days. We also organise a ceilidh one evening for pupils who are staying in Edinburgh. Comann nam Pàrant cover the costs for the sessions, but schools need to organise their own transport and accommodation, although we do pay a percentage of costs.
In 2024, Seachdain Dhùn Èideann will be running between 22-26 April 2024. Further information will go out the schools in the Autumn. If you would like to talk further about Seachdain Dhùn Èideann, I would be very happy to talk to you about it – innes@cnag.org
