26th - 30th July 2010
Following last year’s very successful event Comann nam Pàrant are organising another Gaelic week in Lewis for families with children in Gaelic medium education. The re-establishment of Gaelic as a ‘mother tongue’ and the crucial role of Gaelic use within the home and family has to the revival of the language is now widely recognised and this week will add to the support already available to parents who are keen to increase their use of Gaelic in their home.
Adults will attend Gaelic classes each day whilst the children are at the Fèis in Stornoway. There will be two classes at different levels depending on the participants and for parents this will be an opportunity to experience the Ùlpan model of learning. These classes will be held in the same location as the Fèis which is in the Nicolson Institute.
Families are asked to arrange and pay for their own accommodation and we will refund 50% of the cost of this up to a maximum of £250. There is information on accommodation in the Stornoway area on the Visit Scotland website and we can also recommend the Caravan Park at Laxdale.
Participants will be liable for their own travel and food expenses as well as the fees for the children’s attendance at the Fèis which is £37 for the first child and £18 for others.
